How to Wire a B-hyve Sprinkler Controller
B-hyve installation basics: connect 24 VAC valve wires to a common terminal and one station terminal per zone. Check the manual for your exact model.
A B-hyve sprinkler controller connects to standard 24 VAC irrigation valves. Orbit's wiring guidance describes one common wire shared by all valves, plus one wire from each valve to its own station terminal. Terminal layout, power and sensor details vary by model, so keep the manual for your exact model open while you work.
This site is an independent B-hyve resource, and B-hyve is made by Orbit. This page is a checklist, not a replacement for the manual.
What do I need to know before I start?
- Valve type: the indoor and XR controllers are intended for standard 24 VAC valves. Orbit states the XR works with valves from Orbit, Hydro-Rain and other major brands.
- Zone count: the controller needs at least as many stations as you have valves. See choosing a B-hyve sprinkler controller.
- Location: 57915 and 57925 are indoor only. 57946, 57950 and the XR (57985, 57995) can mount indoors or outdoors.
- Power: the U.S. listing for the 57925 specifies 120V AC, 60 Hz input and includes a power adapter. Power details for other models, and for other regions, should come from the manual.
- Existing wiring: if you are replacing another controller, check whether the old terminal labels and wire count match the new one.
How are the valve wires connected?
Valve wiring follows the same pattern on these controllers:
- One wire from each valve connects to the common wire.
- The other wire from each valve connects to its own station terminal, one terminal per zone.
- Note which valve sits on which terminal, so you can name the zones correctly in the app.
The exact terminal names, and the order of power and wiring steps belong in your model's manual. Orbit does not publish them in the sources used for this guide.
Can I connect a master valve or a pump?
Yes, on the models where Orbit documents it. The 57925 and the XR both support a master valve or pump. The documented feature is a pump start relay. The controller does not power a high-voltage pump motor directly. Use a relay as the manual describes.
Can I add a rain or freeze sensor?
The 57925 lists one compatible wired sensor input. Whether a given model accepts a rain or freeze sensor, and which types, should be verified in its manual before you buy one.
What do I do after wiring?
- Set up the controller in the B-hyve app. It connects by Bluetooth for local setup and by Wi-Fi for remote control.
- Use the 2.4 GHz network for 57915, 57925, 57946 and 57950. The XR can use 2.4 or 5 GHz.
- Name each zone and run a manual test to confirm each valve opens.
What if something does not turn on?
Check the common wire, the station terminal for that zone and the valve itself. A schedule saved in the controller does not run without electrical power, because the controller cannot energize valves when it is unpowered.
Where are the manuals?
Orbit groups them by model: 57946 and 57950, 57915 and 57925, and 57985 and 57995. Use the Orbit manual library. Orbit's support portal covers setup and troubleshooting. The warranty is two years when the product is bought from an authorized dealer.
