That one answer decides what you install, how many areas you can water, and whether you need a Hub. Pick your route.

Six models in three families. Every one has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and drives standard 24 VAC valves, so none of them needs a Hub.

XR features
Dual-band Wi-Fi
Connects on 2.4 or 5 GHz.

Supports a pump start relay for well and booster setups.
Manual lock and lights-off

No digging, no wiring
Each timer screws onto an outdoor hose faucet and runs on batteries. Bluetooth works at the faucet; a Gen 2 Hub adds remote control from anywhere.

One outlet, controlled over Bluetooth. Add a Gen 2 Hub for remote and smart features.

Your hose faucet
Not included.
The timer
Screws onto the faucet. Gen 2 has one outlet; XD has one, two or four.
Gen 2 Hub
Stays indoors and connects the timer to your Wi-Fi.
B-hyve app
Free for iOS and Android. Remote control runs through the Hub.
A sprinkler zone is a group of heads on one buried valve. A hose timer outlet is one threaded connection for one hose. A four-outlet timer waters four hoses; four single timers on a manifold are not the same thing.
A standalone listing contains only the timer. A listing that includes a Hub adds the Gen 2 Hub, which stays indoors and connects the timer to your Wi-Fi for remote control.
How B-hyve decides
WeatherSense reads the local weather and what you tell B-hyve about each zone, keeps a running water balance, and works out when to water and for how long.
Rain, temperature, wind and evaporation for your location.
Soil, sun, plants and slope, entered once for each zone.
From that balance B-hyve decides which days to water, what time to start and how long each zone runs.
Smart watering
Skips the rainy day and recalculates.
Fixed schedule
Waters on its days whatever the weather, unless a weather override applies.
The app keeps an estimate for each zone. Rain and watering add to it; evaporation and plant use take from it. The number is calculated from your zone details and the weather. It is not read by a probe in the soil.
On supported connected setups, B-hyve delays watering for rain, freezing temperatures or high wind, then recalculates once conditions are normal.
One app
Sprinkler controllers, hose timers, hubs and flood sensors all live in one app. Set up, adjust and check on your watering from your phone.

Zone photos
Give every zone a name and a photo, so Front Yard is not just zone 1.
Programs A, B and C
Build separate schedules, each with its own days, start times and zones.
Weather calendar
See the forecast for each day next to your watering plans.
Notifications and watering history
Get alerts, then look back at what ran and when.
Device sharing
Let someone in your household control a device. Not available for flood sensors.
Irrigation audit
Run a catch-cup test to see how much water a zone puts down, then set run times to match.
Hub compatibility
Match the hub to the generation of your timer. Sprinkler controllers have Wi-Fi built in and need no hub.
Works only with Gen 1 hose timers.

Sprinkler controllers have built-in Wi-Fi and need no hub.
Hubs go indoors, in a central spot with few walls or metal structures between the hub and your timers.
One hub can run several devices of the same generation. Do not mix generations on one hub.
Hose timers still work over Bluetooth without a hub. A hub adds Wi-Fi: remote access, weather delays and notifications.

Sprinkler controllers and hose timers install differently. Follow the path that matches what you bought.
Replacing an old controller, or installing a new one, on standard 24 VAC valves.
Step 1
Take a clear photo of every wire and its terminal label before you disconnect anything.
Step 2
Each valve wire goes to the terminal that carries the same number as before. The shared common wire goes to the common terminal.
Step 3
Add the controller in the B-hyve app, join your Wi-Fi network, name each zone and run a manual test to confirm each valve opens.

Screws onto an outdoor faucet. Add a Gen 2 hub when you want remote control.
Step 1
Thread the timer onto your outdoor faucet, then connect the hose to its outlet.
Step 2
Open the B-hyve app near the timer. Bluetooth is enough to set schedules and run it locally.
Step 3
For remote control and smart watering, add the timer to a Gen 2 hub. The hub goes indoors.
Terminal names and power steps differ by model. Keep the manual for your exact model open while you work.
