Which Wi-Fi Band Does My B-hyve Use?
B-hyve 2.4GHz: the XR supports 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, while the 57925 and B-hyve hub setups use 2.4 GHz. Check your exact model.
The B-hyve XR supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The indoor controller 57925 and the referenced hub setups use 2.4 GHz. The statement "all B-hyve devices need 2.4 GHz" is not accurate, so confirm the band for your exact model.
Band support by product
| Product | Wi-Fi band | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| B-hyve XR (57985, 57995 manual group) | 2.4 and 5 GHz | Dual-band, per Orbit's XR page. Verify the model-specific manual for 57995. |
| B-hyve indoor controller 57925 | 2.4 GHz (802.11 b/g/n) | Also has Bluetooth Low Energy. |
| Wi-Fi hubs for hose timers | 2.4 GHz in the referenced setups | Check the manual for your hub model. |
| Bluetooth hose timers without a hub | No Wi-Fi | Control is local over Bluetooth. |
The sources reviewed do not state the band for every other controller, such as 57915, 57946 and 57950. For those, the manual for the exact model is the authority. A manufacturer manual PDF for one older device states a 2.4 GHz-only requirement, and that requirement does not apply to the XR.
Which device connects to Wi-Fi?
Zone count is separate from outlet count, and so is the connection path.
- Sprinkler controllers with built-in Wi-Fi join your router themselves.
- Bluetooth hose timers do not join Wi-Fi. The hub does.
Generation matters too. A Gen 1 hub works only with Gen 1 hose timers. XD timers, Gen 2 timers and flood sensors need a Gen 2 hub. See Which B-hyve hub works with my timer?.
What if my router combines 2.4 and 5 GHz?
Many routers broadcast both bands under one name. Orbit's connection guidance asks whether separate 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are available, which suggests that separating them can matter during pairing for 2.4 GHz devices. How you split the bands depends on your router, so use your router's own instructions.
Also remember:
- The phone you use for setup needs Bluetooth turned on.
- A changed Wi-Fi password means the device must be set up on the network again.
Do I need to change anything for the XR?
No. Because the XR supports both bands, a combined 2.4/5 GHz network is within its stated specification. Signal strength at the controller's location still matters.
