B-hyve Rain Delay, Freeze and Wind Skips Explained
B-hyve rain delay: on supported connected setups, B-hyve delays watering for rain, freeze or high wind, then recalculates. What it needs and what to check.
On supported connected setups, B-hyve delays watering when it detects rain, freezing temperatures or high wind, then works out the right schedule once normal conditions return. A rain delay can also be applied by hand in the app.
This site is an independent B-hyve resource. Exact behavior varies by model, so confirm in the manual for yours.
What triggers a B-hyve weather skip?
Orbit lists three conditions:
- Rain
- Freezing temperatures
- High wind
Orbit's text for a hose-timer kit says that in rain, high wind or freeze, B-hyve will delay watering until normal conditions return and then calculate the appropriate schedule, taking advantage of beneficial rain. The Gen 1 hub listing describes skipping watering during rain or freezing conditions and recalculating schedules.
The sources do not give the temperature, wind speed or rainfall thresholds. Do not assume specific numbers. The thresholds are not published in the material used for this site.
What do I need for automatic weather delays?
| Device | Needed for automatic weather delays |
|---|---|
| Wi-Fi sprinkler controllers (for example 57925, XR) | Built-in Wi-Fi connected to the internet |
| Gen 1 hose timer (21005) | Gen 1 hub (21006) |
| Gen 2 and XD hose timers | Gen 2 hub (21027) |
Hose timers used only over Bluetooth do not receive weather data. Remote access and automatic weather delays need the hub. See Which B-hyve hub works with my timer?.
Can I set a rain delay myself?
Yes. Orbit's pages for supported products describe configurable rain delays, and rain delay is among the functions users can apply in the app. Menu names vary by model and app version, so follow your manual.
Do weather skips apply to custom programs?
Orbit's app description says custom programs can still benefit from weather-event overrides. Smart watering and custom schedules are different modes, and a weather delay is a separate function from both. See What is B-hyve smart watering?.
Why did B-hyve not water today?
Work through these checks:
- Look in the app for a weather delay or rain delay on that day.
- Check that the device is online. Without a connection, fresh weather data may not arrive. Do not assume updated weather reaches the device when the internet is down.
- Check the zone inputs and the soil moisture estimate. See What does soil moisture mean?.
- Check whether smart watering is on or you use a custom program.
- Check whether a sensor is connected to a controller with a sensor input.

What do owners report?
App Store reviews, paraphrased: one owner said the rain delay forecast feature took a few weeks to synchronize and then worked well. Another uses soaker hoses and says the device gives a rain delay when there is a lot of rain, and overrides it when there is too little. Another said the app can stop unneeded watering but cannot add extra water based on weather. A few owners reported a scheduled start showing in the app without any watering, so watch your first runs.
