How to Share a B-hyve Device With Someone
How to share a B-hyve account or device: the other person signs in with their own B-hyve account. Sharing is not available for flood sensors.
To share a B-hyve device, give the other person access to the device so they can use it from their own B-hyve account. They do not need your login. Orbit states that device sharing is not available for flood sensors.
This site is an independent B-hyve resource. Orbit's support articles are the authority for the exact steps in the app.
Can I share my B-hyve account?
The sources describe sharing a device, not handing over an account. Orbit's sharing guidance says another user can access a shared device using their own B-hyve account. Each person installs the free B-hyve app, creates an account and signs in with it.
This keeps the two accounts separate. You do not need to give out your email address or password to let a family member or a housemate use the device.
Which devices can be shared?
Device sharing is listed as a feature of the B-hyve app for supported devices. The sources do not give a model-by-model list, so check Orbit's article for your exact model.
One exclusion is documented: sharing is not available for B-hyve flood sensors.
What are the steps to share a device?
This page does not list menu paths, because the sources used for this site do not spell them out and the app's menus can change between versions. Use these two routes:
- Open the B-hyve app on the phone that owns the device and look in the device area of your account.
- Follow Orbit's article, "How to Share a B-hyve Device", on Orbit support for the exact steps for your device and app version.
The person you are sharing with should install the B-hyve app first. See How to Set Up the B-hyve App. They should download the app named B-hyve, not B-hyve Pro. See B-hyve App vs B-hyve Pro.
What can the other person do with a shared device?
The sources do not say which controls a shared user gets. Do not assume they can do everything the owner can, such as removing the device or changing Wi-Fi settings. Orbit's article is the place to confirm what a shared user can and cannot change.
What if sharing does not work?
- Check that the device is one that supports sharing. Flood sensors do not.
- Check that the other person is signed in to their own B-hyve account in the B-hyve app.
- Check that the device is online. If it is offline, see Why Is My B-hyve Offline?.
- Contact Orbit support for your exact model.
Reviews of the app on the App Store also mention that removing a device from one account and adding it again can be difficult for some owners. If you plan to move a device to a different account, read Orbit's guidance first.
